Salamanca – Madrid

2 Dec – 13 Dec 2019

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) was held from 2 to 13 December in Madrid (Spain) under the presidency of Chile. It was the 25th edition of the summit, whose slogan was Time for Action, a call to all countries to scale up their commitments to fighting climate change.

The route departed from Salamanca on 26 November 2019 and travelled for 6 days more than 500 kilometres by electric bicycle through Castilla-León, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and the Comunidad de Madrid. During the route our multinational team of climate experts had the opportunity to discuss climate action before arriving at the headquarters of the COP25 in Madrid, where they delivered its Manifesto for Climate Action to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Chilean Presidency and other authorities. The Manifesto delivered points to the need to set more ambitious climate targets if we are to achieve zero net emissions by 2050.

La Giralda (Sevilla) – Hassan Tower (Rabat) – Koutoubia Tower (Marrakesh)

8 Nov – 17 Nov 2016

The first Moving for Climate NOW cycle expedition brought together 50 representatives on a 1,100 kilometre route to raise awareness about climate change. The international caravan of professionals from different sectors covered the 1,100 kilometres that separate Seville from Marrakech in ten stages. The chosen means of transport was the electric bicycle; the destination, the Moroccan city that hosted Climate Summit 22 (COP22); and the purpose was to create awareness about the importance of moving fast against climate change. At the end of the route known as The path of the three towers, the team delivered a manifesto that underlined the importance of fulfilling the Paris Agreement “in every country, in every town, in every company, in every family”.

Bilbao – Paris

23 Nov – 29 Nov 2015

This initiative was conceived in 2016 with a view to raising both awareness and media visibility of the importance of reaching an agreement in Paris, demonstrating electricity’s role in the solution and highlighting that we all need to take action: administration, companies and citizens should share the spotlight during this journey.

The journey began from the Iberdrola Tower and followed the most peaceful routes at all times. The road led us to Paris’ Eiffel Tower from the south passed through cities such as San Sebastian, Biarritz, Royan, Tours, Orleans and of course Paris…

We divided the journey into two parts, the first to the frontier and the second in France. We took a coastal road for the trip from Bilbao to Hendaye. Once in France, our trajectory followed EuroVelo routes 1 and 6, along Vélodyssée (from Irún to Sables d’Olonne), Loire-à-Vélo (from Cholet to Châutaudun) and the bike path approaching Paris South (from Orleans to Paris).
