Gerry Gilmurray
Social Obligations Coordinator
ScottishPower
Gerry Gilmurray is a 58-year-old proud Scotsman. He has worked for ScottishPower for about 18 years and for SP Energy Networks for about 7 and a half years. He has been in its current role for the last 5 years. As a Social Obligations Coordinator, his job is about vulnerability, helping to promote the Priority Service Register which is used to support vulnerable customers during interruptions to the electricity supply. The major part of his role is about providing support to customers who may be vulnerable in their day-to-day life. That includes making sure their homes and equipment are as energy efficient as possible, making sure they are on the best energy tariff so that they pay less, making sure their homes are safe from fire, and helping to combat loneliness in the elderly. He notes is a very satisfying role as every day, he provides access to support for vulnerable people.
It's crucial that the vulnerable don’t get left behind in the journey to Net Zero.Gerry Gilmurray - Social Obligations Coordinator, ScottishPower
Often the vulnerable are excluded from initiatives, such as Heat Pumps, because their homes are not energy efficient enough to make heat pumps a viable alternative to gas fired central heating. Or they cannot access EV’s as they cannot fit the charging infrastructure to their homes.Gerry Gilmurray - Social Obligations Coordinator, ScottishPower
If we can come together to beat Covid 19, then we can as a society come together to manage climate change.Gerry Gilmurray - Social Obligations Coordinator, ScottishPower
