Paul Simons

Paul Simons is a Senior Fellow at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University, where he teaches and mentors students in the clean energy transition. From 2015 to 2020 he served as Deputy Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the leading global authority for energy and climate change analysis and policy development. At the IEA, Mr. Simons led outreach activities with major emerging economies, coordinated IEA participation in the G20 process, provided policy input and edited all major IEA publications including the benchmark World Energy Outlook, launched in-depth energy policy reviews of key IEA countries, and led IEA participation in the annual UN COP climate change process. Previously, over a 30-year diplomatic career, he served as principal State Department energy envoy and US Ambassador to Chile, among a series of senior U.S. government policy positions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Simons worked in international corporate lending at a New York-based commercial bank. He holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA in Finance from New York University.
