Carlos Calvo Ambel
Manager for analysis and climate
Transport & Environment
Carlos is manager for analysis and climate in Transport & Environment, which he joined in January 2015 after working for almost a year in Brussels at DG Climate Action in the European Commission and at the Spanish Permanent Representation to the EU. Previously he was mainly employed in the private sector as a climate change consultant, advising clients on the clean development mechanism, the EU emissions trading system and other carbon reduction programmes. Currently he is part of T&E’s freight and climate team, where he works to improve EU climate tools, focusing on increasing the sense of urgency in the EU to tackle transport CO2 emissions, and coordinates the organization’s analytical work on several topics.
Carlos studied environmental sciences in Seville and completed a masters degree in public administration at Columbia University. He speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese, and is taking the opportunity of living in Brussels to learn French. He loves outdoor activities, including climbing and swimming, although in Belgium he more often practices them indoors than he would in his native southern Spain.
Transport is already Europe’s climate public enemy number one, and still growing every year. Measures currently being negotiated in Brussels are insufficient. Ambitious and robust measures are needed today. There is no time to lose!Carlos Calvo Ambel - Transport & Environment
Technology and behavioral changes are needed to bring all transport emissions to zero by 2050 at the very latest. The very few or many vehicles in our roads will need to run on clean electricity. The last vehicle using petrol, diesel or gas in Europe should be sold in the early 2030s.Carlos Calvo Ambel - Transport & Environment
