Chema Sarri
International Coordinator
Peace Boat
Born in Barcelona and based in Tokyo, Chema Sarri is an International Coordinator for Peace Boat. Before joining the Japanese NGO, he worked as a journalist for different newspapers, magazines and radio broadcasters in Spain, UK, France, and Mexico. He is currently the Communications Manager for Peace Boat’s Ecoship, a transformational programme to construct the planet’s most environmentally sustainable cruise ship. He is also the coordinator of Peace Boat’s Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador Programme. This initiative brings youth leaders from states on the front line of climate change and marine degradation to travel onboard Peace Boat’s ship, engaging in capacity building and bringing their message to citizens and government representatives through the voyage.
On Peace Boat, we believe education is key to combat climate change and that’s why we organize different programs to take the voices of young people from large ocean states around the world. It is very hard to care about an issue if you don’t know much about it.Chema Sarri - Peace Boat
Climate education will be a crucial tool in turning the tide on this fight, from children learning to recycle in schools to youth realizing the beauty of the ocean; to corporations implementing sustainable business practices; to the public supporting climate-friendly policies and voting for responsible representatives.Chema Sarri - Peace Boat
The cruise industry is growing very fast. It is important to mitigate the environmental impact of such expansion. With the Ecoship Project, we hope to encourage a model for green cruising and further innovations in the cruise industry.Chema Sarri - Peace Boat
