Iván Martínez Castro
Manager for analysis and climate
Spanish Office for Climate Change
He holds an MSc degree in Forestry Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. His professional career has always been associated with the protection and improvement of terrestrial ecosystems.
He is currently engaged in the fight against climate change by boosting the essential role of forests and agricultural land both in mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the long-term. He aims to increase carbon stocks maximising environmental and socio-economic benefits from land use, while enhancing ecosystems resilience in a scenario of increasing climate-induced disturbances.
The transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon and more resilient society can’t be delayed anymore. Rebuilding consumption and production patterns is a huge and exciting challenge, in which everyone is needed: governments, business and civil society.Ivan Martínez - Spanish Office for Climate Change
Many ecosystems, notably in the Mediterranean area, are already suffering the effects of climate change. We just can´t afford to lose the irreplaceable environmental, social and economic functions that they offer. An adequate management of land use and forests is needed to preserve and enhance the environment and its services, while providing huge climate benefits, now and in the future.Ivan Martínez - Spanish Office for Climate Change
